1970's Ludwig Black Beauty 6.5"x14"
Previously owned by Omar Martinez of Paul Revere & The Raiders (1971–1977, 1980–2006).
Serial # 1624937
This snare drum definitely shows its age - plenty of dings, dents, scratches. The black nickel finish is in good shape despite the other flaws. Bottom hoop is unoriginal as well as a couple tension rods.
Last photo is the only current photo Omar was able to surface of him playing the drum.
From Omar - Here is the story of my Black Beauty.
I took a break in 76” as the drummer and lead singer for Paul Revere and the Raiders and went back home to Miami. I bought my Black Beauty in 77” after doing a recording session at Bay Shore studio where the Eagles recorded ”In The Long Run” CD and played the session on Don Henley’s drums. He had a Black Beauty snare drum and immediately I fell in love with the sound. Next day I went to Ace Music Store in Miami and bought this Black Beauty. When I rejoined the Raiders in 82”-06” I used the Black Beauty in every gig and every session. Even when the band used rental back line for the keys and drums, I still used the BB. This drum has a lot of History. Enjoy amigo.
